THE FOUNDER of a Burnham-on-Sea mental health charity said she feels 'overwhelmed' after residents raised nearly £2,000 to give her a much needed break away as part of a BBC TV show.

Jo Clement, founder of In Charley's Memory was shocked after she was chosen by representatives from BBC Street Auction in Manor Gardens on June 25 to receive £1,976 which will go towards a family break for her and her children.

The mother of three set up the charity in 2015 after her son, Charley Marks succumbed to suicide in September 2014 aged just 18.

The charity now offers support to young people suffering from mental health problems.

Ms Clement said: "I am extremely overwhelmed and can't believe something this good has happened to me as good things don't happen to me.

"I didn't have a clue and am still in shock that I was chosen to be the recipient of the money from this TV show.

"£2,000 was raised today to allow me to take my wonderful children on holiday and for us to spend some time together enjoying ourselves.

"I'm completely overwhelmed still by the whole thing as starting In Charley's Memory is not about recognition for me but to make sure there's fewer Charley's out there.

"I'd just like to thank all my friends, family and my community for raising the money which will enable myself plus my remaining two beauties to have time away."

Residents donated items to the show just a week before filming and community groups including Burnham Brownies and Burnham Flower club set up stalls on the day and sold their hearts out to raise the money for Ms Clement.

Money was also raised at an auction hosted by Paul Martin, presenter of BBC Street Auction who was full of praise for the town.

"It has been a really great day, there is a great atmosphere here.

"I want to thank the community for being so generous.

"Burnham really rocks I can tell you that.

"I am going to remember this day for a long long time.

"Izzy, Danny and I have worked so hard on this but all of the volunteers, all of the entertainers a big thank you to you because without all of you this would not have been possible.

"A big thank you to everyone, you made this happen, people coming together for one common cause" he said.
