TWO men charged with the murder of Joseph Pearce in Burnham appeared at Taunton Magistrates Court today.

Joseph Pearce, 40, died at a property on Churchill Close, Burnham-on-Sea on Monday (July 10).

Dominic Lacey, 21, of Newham Place, Patchway and James Hobbs, 43, of Churchill Close, Burnham-on-Sea spoke only to confirm their names, dates of birth and addresses during a brief hearing this morning (Saturday, July 15).

Magistrate Mark Smith ordered for the case to moved to Exeter Crown Court. The pair will appear initially on Tuesday, with the view to having a plea and trial preparation hearing on August 17.

A 22-year-old man and three women aged 24, 38 and 54 were arrested in connection with the investigation but have all been released without charge.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We'd like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we carried out enquiries at Churchill Close."
