BURNHAM-on-Sea's first ever Comic-Con event will take place this summer.

Fans of Batman, Superman, Star Wars and other comic book heroes will be dusting off their outfits and old comic books in preparation for the town's Comic Con event which will be held at Burnham Baptist Church on August 19.

With less than a month to go until the event, Jade Parkes, organiser of Burnham Comic Con said she is excited to bring the event to the town.

"I have been going to Comic Con events across the country for about five years now and I love the atmosphere and the friends I have made and I felt that it would be a great thing to bring to Burnham as we don't have anything like it here.

"We have a number of great special guests appearing including Alan Flying, Ian Furey King and MK Garrison and a lot of activities at the event so it is a family event that everyone can enjoy" she said.

The project was boosted by a £1,000 community grant from Sedgemoor District Council in May which Jade said was an enormous help.

"Organising events like this takes a long time and does cost a fair amount of money.

"Special guests have to be booked to attend and arcade machines need to be hired for the day and so the money Sedgemoor District Council gave us was a really big help and helped us get the project off the ground" she said.

"The event isn't just for kids, we'll have something retro arcade machines, video games, special vehicles and visitors will have the chance to meet special characters and have photos with Pikachu, Spiderman and Doctor Who.

"We really want it to be a family event and for it continue after this year.

"All the money we make from this year's event will go towards throwing another one next year.

"We really hope that this becomes an annual thing and that it is enjoyed by people in Burnham."
