THE MP for Burnham-on-Sea said he is 'delighted' the 67 bus service has been saved by a funding partnership.

The 67 bus service, which runs between Burnham-on-Sea and Wells, was due to be out of service from July 21 but Somerset County Council (SCC) has confirmed it will continue to operate until March 31 2018 after an agreement was reached for eight parishes in the area to pay a large chunk of the running costs.

SCC has been funding the bus service since May last year after the 67’s previous operator, Webberbus, went out of service will continue to run with no changes to the timetable, route or operator.

James Heappey, MP for Burnham-on-Sea said: “Parish councils along the route have contributed to the subsidy required and the county council has made some further funds available too” he said.

“This will be great news for those who use the bus and will make sure a vital link between Wells and Burnham-on-Sea remains open.

“Councils at all levels will now want to make sure that the number of people using the bus continues to justify their investment. Many people campaigned for the service to stay, I hope they use it.”
