MORE than 2,000 people tested their sword-fighting skills and found their battle cries at a Viking reenactment in Burnham-on-Sea.

The weekend-long event, which started on August 12, saw hundreds of actors and Viking history enthusiasts march into battle at the town’s Manor Gardens.

Recreations of iconic Viking battles took place and visitors got the chance to sharpen their swords, arm their shields and have a go themselves.

There were more than 20 tents showcasing how the Vikings lived, including weaving, dying and cooking displays.

Gaynor Brown, organiser of the event from Burnham-on-Sea Events, said it was a huge success.

“The reenactment went really well, we had so many people come out and enjoy the day,” she said. “We had lots of come through Manor Gardens over the weekend, they were all really enjoying getting involved in the battles but they also paid a lot of attention to the different stands we had.

“We had a wide range of displays and Viking enthusiasts who educated visitors about the era’s history and its significance to Somerset.

“Its hard to keep track of how many people come in and out but over the two days we had more than 2,000 people.

“It was a brilliant weekend for all involved.”
