A BURNHAM-ON-SEA optician will be joined by his entire family as they all have their heads shaved for charity.

Rama Venkat, Store director and optometrist at Specsavers on High Street will be shaving the whole of his head at 4pm tomorrow (September 22) to raise money for the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB).

Rama’s wife Sai, practice manager, and their daughter Thriniyani, who used to work at the store, will also be showing their support and having at least seven inches of hair cut off.

Their hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust who make real hair wigs for children suffering from cancer and other illnesses.

And Rama and Sai’s 13-year-old son Thrilokesh, will also be having his head shaved.

"We’ve been fundraising for the RNIB for quite a few months now and thanks to the generous support of our customers, surpassed our original £500 target and are now looking to raise £1,000," Rama said.

"As the date gets closer I’m getting excited and very much looking forward to supporting National Eye Health Week.

"This is hugely important to help highlight the importance of looking after your eyes and making sure people have regular sight tests, even if they think there’s nothing wrong with their vision."

Two Burnham hairdressers, Hair of the Dog and Bos Hair and Color Bar. will be giving the family the chop and RNIB mascot, Sooty, will be making an appearance.

Customers will be able to take part in a tombola on the day, with the chance of winning prizes which have been generously donated by a huge number of businesses in the town.
