STAFF at a Burnham-on-Sea care home are celebrating after earning a rare 'outstanding' rating in its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) report.

Vicki Mitchell, manager of Frith House said she was 'proud' of all the staff for their hard work that went into achieving this result.

CQC inspectors visited the home on June 13 and looked at whether the service was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

In the five categories, it was rated 'good' in safety, effectiveness and its caring and rated outstanding in its leadership and responsiveness.

The home, on Steart Drive, which cares for 83 residents, is now in the top 1.4 per cent of adult social care providers nationally that are rated outstanding overall.

CQC inspectors praised the care home saying residents and staff were positive about the quality of the service.

"People felt safe at the home and with the staff who supported them.

"One person said 'I am safe here because I get good care, and staff are on the ball, they know what to do and take action when necessary.'

"Staff were observed being caring and supportive towards people and knew the needs of the people they cared for," the report said.

"People, their relatives and staff commented positively on the leadership of the service.

"There were systems to seek the views of people and staff, and additional systems that ensured key messages were communicated."

Vicki Mitchell, Manager said she is 'delighted' the home has achieved the rating.

“The CQC report reflects just hard the team at Frith House work to make a difference to the lives of our residents.

"I would like to personally thank the team for their passion, commitment and dedication.”

Health secretary, Jeremy Hunt and Burnham-on-Sea MP, James Heappey have written to Frith House to congratulate them on their outstanding rating.

Mr Heappey said: “This outstanding report from the CQC underlines the amazing work at Frith House to support those who are living with dementia.

“I congratulate all of the staff on their hard work.

"These results do not happen by accident and they should feel very proud of their achievement.”
