EMERGENCY services worked together to perform a medical evacuation after a person fell ill at a barge at Hinkley Point.

Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard and Burnham RNLI were called at 10.35pm yesterday (November 3) to the town's slipway to help with the evacuation.

The RNLI quickly launched the B class lifeboat, picked up the unwell person from the FUGRO barge and brought them to Burnham Jetty.

As the lifeboat approached the jetty for recovery, an ambulance arrived on the scene.

The lifeboat was brought back to the shore and the unwell person was escorted to the waiting ambulance.

It is not yet known if the person was injured.

A spokesman for Burnham Coastguard, said: "Was great to work with the Lifeboat team, and the outcome was a successful one.

"Multiple agencies working together to achieve the right goals as one unit.

"Good job by the Lifeboat crews and a long night ahead for the shore crew, cleaning and getting the boats ready for next time."

If you see anyone or you yourself become in need of help along the coast, Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguards.
