AN INVESTIGATION has been launched to find out why a herd of cows ended up on the M5.
Motorists experienced long delays as the M5 was closed in both directions on November 7 after cows were spotted walking on the road.
The lanes were closed between Burnham-on-Sea and Weston Super Mare at around 6.30pm but traffic got moooooving again at around 9pm.
Highways England have confirmed they are currently investigating the incident.
Beverley Mears, South West operations manager for Highways England, said: “It is the first time we have experienced such an incident there.
"We are currently investigating how the cows made their way on to the M5 and any necessary preventative measures will be taken to prevent this happening again.”
