MONEY is believed to have been stolen from a cash machine in Burnham-on-Sea after it was 'deliberately' attacked by thieves. 

Police cordoned off the junction of Adam Street and High Street yesterday (November 14) while forensic investigators gathered evidence after a cash machine was smashed in the early hours of the morning. 

Residents were first alerted to the incident at around 4am after reporting they heard a loud 'explosion' on the High Street. 

Firefighters attended the incident after police reported there was a fire in the cash machine.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "!It is believed the fire was started deliberately."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said investigations into the incident are currently ongoing. 

 "We can confirm that it is believed cash was stolen from the machine. 

"It appears there were two offenders, dressed in dark clothing at the scene. They left in a vehicle," the spokesman said.

Police say investigations into the incident are currently ongoing and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
