THE Pride of Sedgemoor Awards 2018 are open for nominations.

The awards, being run by the Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News and sister newspaper the Bridgwater Mercury, aim to recognise those who give their all for their community, or who have achieved heroic things.

Categories open for nominations include Charity Champion, 999 Hero, a Lifesaver Award and Community Business of the Year.

Nominations are open until April 27, 2018, with shortlisted nominees being invited to a special ceremony at the Bridgwater & Albion Rugby Club on Wednesday, May 16.

The awards are being sponsored by Sedgemoor District Council, with other county firms backing inidividual categories.

The latest to get behind the awards are HRGO (Somerset), sponsoring the 999 Hero Award, and Amicus Law, sponsoring the Lifesaver Award.

An Amicus Law spokesman said: "At AmicusLaw we like to feel we are very much part of the community in which we are based, our clients are drawn from and our staff often live.

"As solicitors we assist people from all backgrounds and from all walks of life, generally when their lives are at their most complicated or they are having to grapple with challenges they have never had to face before.

"It never ceases to amaze us at Amicus just how robust the people who live in and around the Sedgemoor district are.

"Therefore we are proud to support such community based awards as the Pride of Sedgemoor and are very pleased to be able to be part of the group of business and individuals recognising what an amazing bunch of people live their lives around us.

"We chose to sponsor the Lifesaver award as we feel that selfless people who are either prepared to risk life and limb for the benefit of others, or go to such lengths to assist others that their lives have been significantly bettered, deserve to be celebrated and recognised for the true heroes they are."

An HRGO (Somerset) Ltd spokesman said: "HRGO (Somerset) Ltd is delighted to support the Pride of Sedgemoor Awards 2018 by sponsoring the Pride 999 Hero category.

"Our “blue light” services – police, fire and rescue, ambulance and coastguard – do a remarkable job and it’s a privilege to honour their amazing life-saving work.

"HRGO (Somerset) Ltd - a joint venture with HRGO Plc – plays its full part in the group’s nationwide Acts of Kindness campaign by fundraising and volunteering for good causes.

"Sharon Aldridge, managing director, based in Angel Crescent, Bridgwater, is committed to helping her community, not only with staffing needs but she often takes part in charitable events, from 100-mile bike rides to muddy assault courses.

"We are a recruitment business serving clients and candidates seeking temporary and permanent roles, from industrial temps to executive and technical permanent placements.

"Sharon offers extensive specialist knowledge of recruitment after working locally in the sector for more than 20 years and her eight-strong team enjoy more than 100 years of experience across a wide range of sectors and would be happy to support you with your recruitment needs.
