A YOUNG entrepreneur from Burnham-on-Sea has been honoured with a prestigious award.

Shaunessy Abrahams, 21, founded Sedgemoor Caravans in 2016 while working for his parent's business, West Country Park Homes Ltd and hasn't looked back.

The 21-year-old was crowned The Federation of Small Business' Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the South West at an event on February 20 at Somerset County Cricket Ground.

Shaunessy said he was thrilled to receive the accolade: "We’ve had an absolutely grand first year with a strong turnover that has by far exceeded even my expectations.

"I have a great team working with me and this award is as much theirs as it is mine."

The young entrepreneur started the caravan business at the age of 19 whilst working for his parent’s business, West Country Park Homes Ltd.

Shaunessy was completing a fencing job in Berrow when a co-worker offered him the chance to buy a caravan.

It was an offer he couldn't refuse.

Shaunessy quickly sold the caravan on and and realised the potential for his future business.

"It has been great to have received such support from the FSB and we are very much looking forward to the year ahead, "Shaunessy said.

The business owner has high hopes for the future and is looking to move into the motorhome trade this year.

Also after just 11 months of trading Sedgemoor Caravans have recently opened a brand-new Service Centre near their showground at Edithmead Leisure and Park Homes.

Shaunessy has been invited to attend the FSB 'Celebrating Small Business Awards National Final' later this year.
