A BURNHAM-on-Sea mother said she is 'not giving up' after her plans to open a children's soft play centre in Highbridge have been delayed.

Debbie Beckett planned to open CrazyDayz Active Play Centre later this year at a unit on Brue Way but was left disappointed after the unit's landlord decided not to go ahead with the lease.

The centre, which will cost about £70,000 to build, will have climbing walls, slides, tunnels, soft play building blocks and will be kitted out with a sensory area which will have bubble tanks, lights, and textures to help children with special needs.

Despite the bad news, Debbie says she is 'absolutely determined' to make her play centre dream a reality and is continuing to search for a new venue for the business.

"When the landlord told me that he didn't want to go ahead with the lease I was gutted, the unit was the perfect size and shape but it just wasn't meant to be," Debbie said.

"I have looked a few other industrial units in the Burnham and Highbridge area but I have had similar problems with landlords who just don't want to let them out for this type of venture."

Debbie said she has contacted Sedgemoor District Council about her plans to open the play centre and is still hoping to open the business later this year.

"This soft play area is something that is needed in the Burnham and Highbridge community," Debbie said.

"A lot of mum's need somewhere to take their children during the holidays and for play during the day.

"There has been such a positive response from people online and I feel like I have got the support of people in both towns.

"Everything happens for a reason and the disappointing news about the lease is just a bump in the road.

"I am still hoping to open later this year but if the council do want to get involved I think it will be open in the first few months of 2019.

"I am absolutely determined to open this play centre and am looking forward to the future."
