GETTING children into the car is a mission for any parent at the best of times.

But a Burnham-on-Sea couple is hoping to make it an easier task by developing an inflatable car booster seat.

Sue Spaven and her husband, Steve, have spent the last seven years designing the Caboost, a car seat which can be rolled away when its not being used.

The couple started the project after Sue saw her children playing with a car seat while she was in a local car wash.

"I was in a local car wash and the kids were playing with a hard booster seat and I thought, why can’t I just fold this away to keep it out of their reach somewhere, why don’t we make this inflatable?" Sue said.

"We had a look at how these seats were made and then designed and developed the Caboost from there."

The inflatable seat, which can be used by children aged between 6 and 12 who weigh between 22 and 36kg, has been crash tested and complies with new car safety regulations.

"We did not want to re-invent the booster seat, we just wanted to make it better," Sue said.

"The Caboost literally just needs blowing up and it is ready for use.

"We recognized just how uncomfortable the traditional booster seats are and so we developed the construction of Caboost, using air cushion technology, to ensure that not only was safety a priority, but comfort as well.

"Caboost offers the convenience to roll away when not in use, which makes it ideal as a spare for friends and family and perfect for overseas travel, as it can be packed away in your hand luggage."

The couple will be appearing on Buy It Now on Channel 4 at 5.30pm next Tuesday (April 24) and hope they will be able to offer the seat to the public.

"Our future plans are to establish Caboost in the UK, Europe and around the world," Sue said.

"Caboost has been tested and complies with all requirements for sale in the USA as well.

"We also have the high-backed version of Caboost in the pipeline, which will enable smaller children to have a comfortable ride, as well.

"I would urge people to watch and see the difference between Caboost and a traditional piece of hard plastic, which is all that our children have had in terms of a proper everyday use booster seat."
