A BURNHAM-on-Sea grandmother has spoken of her excitement after publishing her second children's book.

Ann Poole of South Street published her first book, Beach Friends, last year after spending nearly 20 years writing it.

Now a year on,Ann has published her second children's book, Field Friends, which features stories about animals you might see on a summers day walk.

Ann said like her first book, it was inspired by trips she went on with her grandson, Jack, in Burnham when he was a young boy.

"The first book was really well received, I had some great feedback and so I decided to write another one," Ann said.

"My new book, Field Friends, came out in March and so far I have had a positive response from people.

"Like Beach Friends it is based on experiences I had with my grandson which are very special to me.

"There are illustrations in the book to help children recognise what they see and encourage them to appreciate the country side."

Since the book was released in March, Ann has been hard at work promoting it and organising signing events but says she still finds time to write.

"For me writing is a hobby I really enjoy," Ann said.

"It's amazing that people have responded well to my new book.

"I am excited for the future."

Ann's book is on sale online at a number of major book retailers including Amazon and Foyles and can also be bought directly from the book's publisher, New Generation.

The book costs £8.99 for the paperback edition and £14.99 for a hardback edition.

She has a book signing and a reading session at Design a Ted on High Street in Burnham on May 26 and is currently in talks with staff at Burnham Library to do a signing there.
