PLANS to transform the derelict Highbridge Hotel into affordable homes for young people have been given the green light.
Sedgemoor District Council has approved a proposal to build 23 accommodation units, public access meeting rooms, a cafe and a sports hall.
The site off Huntspill Road has lain derelict after being devastated by two fires in six years.
Councillors at Burnham and Highbridge Town Council's planning committee meeting on Wednesday praised the plan saying the new facilities would be an 'asset to the community'.
But residents fear there will be an increase in noise and their privacy will be invaded if development goes ahead.
