TWO orphaned fox cubs are recovering well at Secret World Wildlife Rescue thanks to swift action from the Devon Badger Group.
Members of the badger group recently found a lactating female fox which had been shot which led them to believe there may be orphaned cubs starving nearby.
When they returned later that evening, the group found a tiny fox cub but were unable to capture it.
Determined to save the stranded cub, the group set up a trap camera, which showed there were two sibling fox cubs – and both were in poor condition with no mother.
Eventually, the group managed to capture one of the cubs, which was taken to the Secret World Wildlife Centre, in East Huntspill, but the other cub escaped.
The dedicated group then camped out for a week in a bid to capture the second cub and were eventually successful.
After having a health check at the centre the two cubs were reunited.
Dan Bryant, an animal carer for the charity, said: “It is always heartening when you hear just how far some people will go to help wildlife.
“Without the group and the protection of their mother, both cubs would have died.”
The cubs, named Harry and Houdini, will continue to recover at Secret World before they are released into the wild.
