A TEAM of five hardy Somerset men have taken on one of the UK’s toughest obstacle course to raise money for good causes.

Burnham-on-Sea’s David Whatley and friends Luke Organ, Toby French, Jeff French and Brad Tooker competed in the Tough Mudder obstacle course at Clifton Downs, Bristol, on Saturday, May 19, under the guise of the ‘Somerset Revellers’.

Toby French managed to complete the course, which included cargo nets and 15ft high walls, despite being a double amputee.

Mr Whatley said: “We have all taken on a healthy living and keeping fit regime beginning at the start of this year and after seeing an advert pop up on Facebook about the Tough Mudder, we quickly decided to take part.

“It was a very hot day with a nice breeze which helped and the atmosphere was amazing. There was great camaraderie between the competitors.

Toby was incredibly and smashed every obstacle. The crowd applauded him for overcoming obstacles that even the fittest of us sometimes found difficult.

“After crossing the finish line we were each given a T-shirt, headband and a thirst quenching bottle of Cider which went down really well.”

Luke and Brad took on the challenge to raise money for specialist support to help Brad’s son Aston. David Whatley competed to raise money to raise awareness of Parkinson’s Disease, something his father-in-law suffers with.

Toby and Jeff French wanted to raise cash to buy a pair of specialist blades for Toby so that he can run further events and raise money for charity
