RESIDENTS in Highbridge made their views known as a panel debated Brexit, mobile phones in schools and Donald Trump when BBC Radio 4 broadcast a live episode of 'Any Questions' from the town's Community Hall.

More than 150 people packed into the hall on Friday (June 22) as presenter Jonathan Dimbleby chaired a lively debate with a panel of Alistair Campbell, journalist Maya Goodfellow, economist Linda Yueh and former Conservative MP Peter Lilley.

Ten people submitted their questions to the panel of which four were read.

But Brexit and the NHS caused the biggest stir which saw one resident heckle Alistair Campbell and Jonathan Dimbleby say "Hold it Sir. It's difficult for the panelists to speak with the level of interruption they are getting. Do be kind."

When resident Joanna Lewin-Harris asked "How does the panel think the government should raise the extra money it has promised to fund the NHS?" a resident said: "Leave the EU" to the sound of loud applause.

The audience laughed as former MP Peter Lilley confused Jonathan Dimbleby with BBC 1 Question Time host David Dimbleby.

A resident also called for a 'show of hands on taxes' about paying extra taxes to fund the NHS which host Jonathan Dimbleby agreed.

It showed residents would pay extra taxes to fund the NHS.

Almost all of the audience also raised their hands in support of banning mobile phones in schools.

Speaking after the show, presenter Jonathan Dimbleby thanked the audience for coming to the show and thanked organiser Cllr Janet Keen for putting on the event.
