THE future of a Burnham-on-Sea youth club could be in jeopardy unless a new chairman is found.

The Zone Youth Club, which is based at the Bay Centre on Cassis Close, is on the search for a new chairman and more volunteers to help with fundraising and supervising youth workers.

Elise De Vill, treasurer of The Zone Youth Club, said the club's former chairman resigned earlier this year and if a replacement is not found the club could close.

"In the last year the club has been going from strength to strength, we now have more than 30 children here every week," Elise said.

"Sadly our chairman resigned earlier this year and now we are looking for someone to take their place as we have to have three people on our committee or the club can't run."

Elise said the club's new chairman doesn't need to have any qualifications but just needs to be able to spare a few hours a month and have an interest in developing ideas to make the club a nice place for children.

"All of the hard work was done when we initially set up the club in 2016," Elise said.

"We just need someone who can spare between two and four hours a month to help maintain where we are, supervise youth workers and help develop new ideas for the future of the club.

"It's really not that much of a daunting task.

"We also need committee members to offer up new ideas, complete funding applications and answer emails so another fundraiser and administrator would be excellent as new job roles.

"We are a very small supportive team on the committee and would love to see some new faces.

"The club has been really successful, the children who come here love it here so we want to find more volunteers and a new chairman so we can keep the club going well in the future."

The Zone Youth Club is a place for young people age 10-16 to come and have fun.

The club is held at The Bay Club from 3.30pm to 5.30pm on Tuesday's and entry costs £1 per week.
