HIGHBRIDGE'S new Aldi store is set to open next week more than a year after plans were approved to build it.

Olympic silver medallist, Samantha Murray, who won a silver medal at the London 2012 Olympics, will open the new store at Isleport Business Park at 8am on Thursday, August 23.

Work on the new store began in February after Sedgemoor District Council approved plans to build the store in May 2017.

A spokesman for Aldi said the new 1,254 sqm store just off Bennett Road has created 25 jobs and will offer a range of British produce to shoppers and an enhanced, convenient and varied shopping experience.

Samantha, who currently lives in Somerset, said: "I’m really looking forward to opening morning.

"It’s a great feeling to give back to a community that’s adopted me as its own for the past ten years.

"I hope I can inspire customers to stay active and maintain a healthy, balanced diet. With so much fresh produce on offer at Aldi, it’s really easy to do so.”

The first 30 shoppers in the queue on opening day will get their hands on a complimentary bag of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s famous Super 6 range, as part of the supermarket’s mission to encourage healthy eating across the nation.

Speaking ahead of the opening, store manager, Emma Marchant, added: “We’re all really excited to meet Samantha on opening morning and we’re delighted she will be cutting the all-important ribbon to open our brand new store.

"We’ve got some fantastic opening week Specialbuys on offer, as well as some excellent prices on fresh, British produce, so we look forward to opening our doors to everyone on August 23.”
