MORE than 1,000 people headed to Burnham-on-Sea's Esplanade to show their support for the emergency services at an annual Rescue Services Day.
The free event on Sunday (August 19), which was hosted by BARB Search and Rescue, saw representatives from more than 30 rescue charities and services including Burnham Coastguard, St John's Ambulance and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service put on displays and demonstrations for visitors to show them how they keep people safe all year round.
Visitors had the chance to try on kit used by emergency services staff and get involved in rescue demonstrations.
A spokesman for BARB Search and Rescue, said the event was a big success.
"Thank you to all those who attended our rescue services day," the spokesman said.
"Our crew members enjoyed meeting many supporters during the day and also performing several rescue demonstrations with our Coastguard and RNLI colleagues.
"We thank those who kindly gave donations to BARB, raising a superb £700 towards our work.
"A special thank you also goes to Roger Flower, the event's organiser and BARB president, for his work in ensuring the event was such a success.
