A 'GET me out of here' fun game could be coming to Taunton soon.

Businessman Richard Anderson wants to convert a suite of offices into an escape room enterprise.

He has applied for planning permission to change the use of the offices over two floors in premises in Silver Street.

The vacant building - 24-28 Mansfield House - currently has permission for financial and professional services and Mr Anderson is asking Taunton Deane Borough Council to change that to assembly and leisure.

Escape rooms are physical adventure games in which players solve a series of puzzles and riddles using clues, hints and strategy to complete the objectives at hand.

Players have to work against the clock to unveil the secret plot set in a variety of fictional locations such as prison cells, dungeons and space stations.

If Mr Anderson gets the go-ahead, the escape room would open on a strictly 'by appointment' basis from 11am until 9pm daily and 11am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, depending on demand.

A note accompanying the application says: "There will be no material alterations to the building, or installation of machinery.

"Noise levels will be comparable to a typical office environment.

"There is currently no intention to apply for licensing in respect of alcohol sales, public performance or gambling, nor is this expected in the future."
