A Banbury resident said the key to a long life is hard work as she celebrated her 103rd birthday.

Dorothy Tweedy, a resident of Seccombe Court, marked her milestone birthday on April 27.

Her birthday celebrations included a special cake from the care home's chefs and a decorated lounge filled with birthday banners and balloons.

Ms Tweedy, who was born in 1921, said her motto in life was: “Never stop working, hard work keeps you going."

She was part of the women's land army during World War Two, contributing to Britain’s food production.

Post-war, she became the director of a business that creates professional hairdressing and wig making materials, Postiche in Banbury.

Ms Tweedy married her husband, Robert, at the age of 40 and continues to enjoy her hobbies of cooking, baking, knitting, and sewing.

Wojciech Kuczkowski, general manager at Seccombe Court, said: "We work hard to support residents to lead fulfilling lives, and marking special occasions and birthdays plays a huge part in this.

"We love any excuse to celebrate the amazing people living here at Seccombe Court and Dorothy’s birthday was no exception.

"Everyone had a wonderful time toasting Dorothy’s birthday and listening to her share memories from her long, happy life.

"We’re all incredibly privileged to have Dorothy as part of the Seccombe Court family – happy 103rd birthday."
