LOVE was in the air in Cotford St Luke today as one woman’s “knight in shining armour” swept her off her feet.

Adele Maxwell was enjoying coffee with friends at the Chapel pub in the village when partner of four years, Scott Brown, gave her the surprise of her life.

Scott, dressed as a knight, entered the pub on horseback and got down on one knee to ask Adele to marry him – to cheers from family and friends.

Scott came up with the idea after Adele asked him when he was going to be her knight in shining armour and marry her and hatched the plan with Chapel landlord Sean O’Reily and family and friends.

He said: “She’s always taking the mickey out of me and she used to say that I’m the most unromantic man in Taunton – well not anymore.

“This has been five months in the planning and Adele thought she was going for a mum’s and toddlers meeting.

“I was nervous about everything but she said yes and I didn’t fall off the horse so it went even better than I hoped for.”

The couple met during a night out in Taunton and had their first date at Burger King.

Adele’s daughter, Jasmine, 7, was also at the proposal along with the couple’s son, two-year-old Charlie.

Adele, who was crying and shaking from the shock, said: “I was so surprised – I had absolutely no idea.

“It’s so amazing, he’s not romantic at all so this was such a surprise.”
