NEARLY a decade after work started on the Frank Foley Parkway, the ribbon was finally cut to mark the completion of the link road today.
Town, district and county councillors turned out for the long awaited ceremony held on the road, which for so long has been the road to nowhere.
But shortly after 2.30pm the first car made its way along the new Burnham Eastern Distributor Road to the applause and cheers of dozens of locals.
Chairman of Somerset County Council John Edney officially declared the new highway, which connects Burnham to Highbridge, open for business.
He told the Weekly News: “All of the town councillors have pushed so hard for this and deserve all the credit for finally getting the job done.
“It has been a long time coming and the road is named after an exceptional man and it will be of great benefit to the whole community.”
