'Best-ever' Folkfest gives a welcome boost for trade

'JADED' organisers of this year's Burnham Folkfest have hailed the festival as the best yet.

It was a case of the morning after the nights before for the team behind the event on Monday morning after another weekend of live folk music.

No less than 63 live acts and four dance sides performed to thousands in various watering holes across the town and in the high street.

Folkfest chairman Graham Cook told the Weekly News he and fellow organisers were feeling 'a little jaded' afterwards but it was all worthwhile.

He said: “We have broken all records in every department really - we've seen more people over the course of the weekend, the bands were better than ever and the weather was perfect.

“People were out spending money in the town centre and that can only be a good thing for local trade.

“It has been a heck of a lot of hard work getting everything ready but there was absolutely no trouble and everyone commented how amazing it was.”

Graham and his team are now looking at making next year's feast of music even bigger and better.

“We are looking at ways we can extend it in 2010, perhaps by adding another day or even having events on the Thursday night”, he added.
