A CARNIVAL association has put forward plans which could see the order of the local processions change in future years.
The Mid Somerset Gangs and Features Association wants to group Bridgwater, North Petherton and Highbridge and Burnham carnivals with the Weston procession, and have the Wells, Shepton Mallet and Glastonbury events held afterwards - to help clubs cut down on travel time.
The plans are at an early stage, but if they are approved it would mean the circuit no longer ending at Weston.
Bridgwater Carnival Committee says it will back the plans when the Somerset County Committee meets on February 15.
Sean Rendells, chairman of Bridgwater Gangs and Features, said the proposals came through following the last meeting.
He said: “I cannot say much at this time but we will need to discuss the proposals at the meeting to get the feelings from the clubs involved.”
David Churches of the Mid Somerset Gangs and Features Association said: “If the groups at the meeting agree the proposals make sense then we would go to the next stage, highlighting any problems that we could face.
“Logically the current route doesn't make sense and everyone travels more miles but there are a lot of issues to resolve first.”
