KING Alfred student Jodie Gregg has been elected the school’s first representative in the UK Youth Parliament.
The year 11 pupil from Highbridge will represent the whole of Sedgemoor and Mendip after being voted in during the recent election campaign.
It is the first time a student from King Alfred has ever nominated themselves as a candidate, and the first time the school has taken part in the elections.
A school spokesman said: “It’s been a huge achievement not just for Jodie in a personal sense, but for the school as well.”
Jodie now starts her 12-month term of office as a member of the youth parliament (MYP) alongside her deputy, who has been elected from the Blue School in Wells.
She will be involved in the UK Youth Advisory Group in Somerset and will help make positive changes for local young people by creating a manifesto, lobbying various groups, and working with top officials.
Jodie said: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who got behind my election campaign, especially all the King Alfred’s students who took the time to vote.”
