BURNHAM'S iconic pier will be decked out in red, white and blue to celebrate the launch of British Tourism Week.
Burnham's pier, the smallest in the UK, will host a Party on the Pier event on March 13 to kick-start the nationwide tourism drive in Burnham and Highbridge.
More than 30 seaside piers across the country will hold parties simultaneously on Saturday, March 12, but Burnham's will be held the day after, Pier Pavilion managing director Louise Parkin confirmed.
In keeping with the quintessentially British feel, the party will feature traditional fish and chip suppers and high tea, and there could be Morris Dancing and cider tasting.
Louise said: “The party is a good opportunity for people who have never been to the pier to see what they are missing out on.
“It is only a small pier but we will do our best with what we have got - you can jog around some piers.
“We have decided to hold the party on the Sunday so it won't clash with Weston's - we just cannot compete with the scale of theirs.”
Burnham and Highbridge Mayor and Mayoress Michael and Maria Clarke will attend the event along with Sedgemoor District Council chairman Jane Moreton.
If you think you can add to the party's British theme, get in touch with the Louise Parkin on 01278-786728.
