ST John Ambulance Somerset is seeking volunteers for a scheme which helps older people revive precious memories.

The charity is launching its Reminiscence Memory Box Activities and Life Story Work scheme in Somerset.

Under the scheme, which already works successfully in Devon, volunteers help care home activity coordinators hold reminiscence activities that encourage older people to be more active socially.

They use memory boxes, filled with items designed to trigger memories, such as pictures of favourite film stars, items of clothing or food. Volunteers also help older people complete their own life storybooks.

A training day for volunteers will be held at St John’s Somerset headquarters at Woodlands Court Business Park, Bridgwater, on a date to be confirmed.
