Highbridge RSPCA applies for wind turbine
A HIGHBRIDGE animal rescue centre has told the Weekly News its electricity bills will be halved if its application for a small wind turbine is granted.
Rita Hinton, secretary for the North Somerset branch of the RSPCA, has applied for full planning permission for an 11kW wind turbine on an 18-metre mast to be built at the Brent Knoll rescue centre.
She said: “The Trustees have for some time been researching ideas to cut the costs of heating and electricity bills and has decided renewable energy is the way forward.
“As a welfare organisation, it is necessary for the Centre to be heated if the temperature drops below a certain level and this can cost as much as £10,000 a year.
“By investing in alternative energy the electricity bills would be halved.”
The Brent Knoll Centre costs over £600 a day to run and it is hoped by cutting electricity costs the charity can help more local animals.
