A SELECTION of venues taking part in this year's Art Week had a visit from the Mayor.
Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Ken Smout made a surprise appearance at the start of Sedgemoor Community Partnership's 'First Step' Personal Mandala Artwork course on Monday (September 17)
Councillor Smout said: “I felt compelled to drop in to Morland Hall in Highbridge to show my approval and wish the students well in creating new skills.
“After the first session all the students found new friends, were bubbling with a new-found enthusiasm and looking forward to the next sessions.”
During the short course 11 students were shown examples of Mandala art and learnt about its history, before being encouraged to create their own Mandala design.
Richard Mathews from SCP thanked Somerset Skills and Learning for its support.
He added: “We are determined to continue to provide facilities to offer local people the chance to participate in new ways of delivering relevant subjects.”
The project will focus on those living in deprived wards in Berrow, Burnham and Highbridge, together with others living in any part of Somerset who may be disadvantaged as a result of income, disability or mental health problems or as a consequence of being a minority group.
