Burnham mum sheds four stone in one year

A MUM from Burnham has scooped a prestigious weight loss award after shedding over four stone in one year.

Kelly-Marie French-Bell, 29, lost 4st 9lb after joining Burnham’s Slimming World group and has won the district ‘Woman of the Year’ finals in Yeovil.

Slimming World trainer Karen Parker encouraged Kelly to enter the finals after she won a group competition at the Burnham class.

Karen said: “After we discovered Kelly was in the criteria for the district finals we prepared for the huge event.

“Kelly stood out and beat 12 more semi-finalists.”

Kelly, who began the class after reaching a clothing size of 20/22, said: “It was an amazing day from start to finish, and I was presented with a huge basket of flowers and certificates.”

She thanked her friends who encouraged her to join the group, based at the old court house in Jaycroft Road, and described it as the best thing she had ever done for herself.

She said: “My first week’s weight loss was 6½lbs and I was hooked.

“Winning this competition has boosted my confidence and self-esteem.”

Slimming World meets every Monday from 10am to 12pm, and every Tuesday at 3.30pm, 5.15pm and 7pm.
