MORE than 40 stallholders will welcome visitors to Burnham’s first food and drink festival tomorrow (September 29).

Two of the town’s largest venues – the Baptist Hall and Princess Theatre – will host an array of businesses showcasing their products alongside 14 ‘Side Order’ events in shops and venues throughout Burnham from 10am.

The Great Burnham Bake-Off will also see amateur bakers challenged to make cakes of any size, iced or naked, rich or fruity. Entries should be delivered to The Baptist Hall before 2pm.

The festival is being organised by Beverley and Sarah Milner Simonds.

Beverley told the Weekly News: “We’ve been planning this for a year and everyone so excited. People have been stopping us in the street and asking us about it.

“I hope this whole event will attract traders to Burnham and allow them to make contacts, while promoting what existing local traders have to offer. There will also be promotions and discounts.

“The bake-off is new this year too. Baking is a great family activity and everyone can have a go so I hope people will register to join in.”

Nicky Saunders, from Cool Kids Cookware, said: “I’m looking forward to the family category of the bake-off and I can't wait to see what the children have been baking.

“I believe the vast array of locally produced food will offer a fantastic free family day out in beautiful Burnham.”

Sue Milverton, from the Clavelshay Barn Restaurant, one of the Festival Side Orders, added: “I wanted to get involved to help celebrate the wonderful food and producers which we have in this area. I am most looking forward to sampling the delicious food and drink.”

KDS Interiors, a kitchen design company in the town centre, will be hosting two suppliers as a part of Side Orders.

Kay Rossiter of KDS said: “We wanted to support Beverley and Sarah in their first Food and Drink Festival venture and to share in the experience of bringing like minded people together to celebrate what Burnham and the area can offer.”
