SEVENTEEN staff from a Highbridge primary school are raising money to support a close friend fighting cancer.

Linda Britton, Debbie Sainsbury, and other staff from Churchfield Primary School will dress in purple for their ‘50 Shades of Purple’ evening walk on Friday, October 19, in aid of the Ovacome charity and their colleague, Sharon James.

Linda, who is organising the walk, told the Weekly News: “We decided to do the walk after hearing that our colleague, Sharon, is going through intensive chemotherapy treatment for ovarian cancer.

“You hear a lot about breast cancer but we want to raise awareness for this type of cancer for people like Sharon and for the other women and families affected by it.

“We’re hoping to make lots of money for Ovacome but we mainly just want to give Sharon a boost.”

The group will set off at 6pm from the school, walking through Apex Park to the sailing club where they will also hold a two-minute silence for four-year-old Dylan Cecil who died after falling into the sea in August.

The group will then release Ovacome balloons for anyone affected by Ovarian cancer and hope people will join them to see the balloons go off just after 6.30pm and donate.

They will then head along the Esplanade through Seaview Road to Love Lane where they will collect at The Dunston Inn and The Rosewood Inn between 7pm and 8pm, before finishing back at the school.

Linda added: “We have raised £50 already and the other day an old man came over to me and put a £10 note into the collection box.

"People in Highbridge and Burnham are so generous and we would like to thank them in advance.”
