Racers, yobs and drugs identified as police priorities

BOY racers, yob behaviour and drug problems were identified as top priorities at a community police meeting last night (October 10).

The public voted at the police PACT meeting for top concerns for the next quarter to be anti-social behaviour and anti-social driving in Morrison's car park, as well as tackling drugs.

Neighbourhood Police Team Sergeant Ian Kennett said: “These meetings are vital because they allow the public to speak to their policing team and identify issues in their area.”

Burnham police revealed at the meeting they had received 30 complaints regarding noise from cars zooming across the car park, resulting in increased police patrols and close monitoring of CCTV footage.

Proposals to introduce barriers to prevent boy racers accessing the car park late at night are also being considered, along with the possibility of holding demonstrations to educate young drivers on how anti-social driving affects those around them.

Police also executed a number of warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act last month, based on intelligence collected from members of the public and police PACT meetings.
