A FOURTEEN-year-old Air Cadet from a Burnham and Highbridge flight squadron has taken to the skies for the first time in a training aircraft.

Shona Nicol, from 290 Detached Flight Squadron, had the chance to try the RAF’s primary training craft, the Grob-Tutor, at Colerne airfield, near Bath.

Shona, who joined the cadets this year, experienced the thrill of aerobatics and learnt the basics of aircraft piloting during her 30-minute flight.

She said: “This was an amazing experience. I got to fly the plane and go upside down, something I’ve never done before. I can’t wait for the next time.”

The cadets have the opportunity three times a year to go powered flying, as well as other gliding days and courses.
