Beach walk held for Alzheimer's Society
ORGANISERS are urging people to walk the 15 miles from Burnham pier to Brean Down and back on May 25 to raise cash for the Alzheimer's Society.
Newcomers will join around 140 participants already taking part, including students from King Alfred School, a group of senior citizens and 12 firemen.
Mike Barsby, organiser of the event, said: "Alzheimer's can affect anyone - statistics show that one in four people know or have known someone with Alzheimer's or dementia.
"In my case it was my mother Joyce, her memory deteriorated so badly that in the last months of her life she could not remember the names of her close family.
"So, please, get a group of friends and family together and join us on May 25."
This year's beach walk starts at 11.30am from Burnham Pier and medals will be awarded to the first ten walkers who arrive at Brean Down.
All participants will be awarded a Beach Walk 2008 certificate.
For more information and sponsor forms contact Mike Barsby on 07936-538263 or 01278-793487, or e-mail mikebarsby21@msn.com.
