Highbridge fire latest - "most likely" deliberate

Crews at the scene of yesterday's huge fire

FIREFIGHTERS have said they believe the Highbridge Hotel blaze was most probably arson.

Crews spent most of yesterday night (Tuesday) tackling a giant blaze at the former hotel in the centre of the town.

Paul Slaven, spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, told the Weekly News: "Fire investigation teams have been unable to go into the building today, but hope to go in tomorrow.

"The most likely cause of the fire is that it was deliberate, but we won't be able to confirm this until an investigation is carried out."
