IT’S ALMOST time for Highbridge and Burnham Carnival tonight (November 12) - and the Weekly News has spoken to Hill View Carnival Club ahead of the excitement.

The group has chosen the theme ‘The Hollywood Hotel 1939’ this year and members, aged eight to 16, have been working very hard.

Tina Marshall, secretary of the club, said: “The children have been so excited. It’s the first carnival for a lot of them.

“They have been working really hard, especially after Bridgwater Carnival, changing lights and repairing costumes.”

Tina said the cart theme, chosen by an older member who supports the club, shows what goes on with all the ghosts which come out after the clock strikes 12 at the Hollywood Hotel.

She added that fundraising has also been challenging this year. She said: “A lot of our usual fundraising events have been a washout because of the rain.

“Although we’re a small club we still usually have to raise more than £12,000 – so any donations are very much appreciated.”

But according to the weather forecast the rain should have moved on by the time tonight’s procession starts at 7.30pm.

Organisers have reminded people there is also a lot of shelter along the route, even if the odd shower breaks through.
