COUNCILLORS are set to decide if a motel in Brean should be granted a licence for alcohol sales and entertainment.

Sedgemoor District Council's licensing and gambling panel will meet on January 30 to consider an application to grant a premises licence to The Old Rectory Motel in Church Road.

A district council spokesman said: “A total of 14 objections have been received by the district council from residents and business in Brean.

“The objections, in the main, express concerns about noise from entertainment at the premises and disturbance associated with customers leaving the premises in the early hours.”

However, the applicant, Stuart Michael Nash, has negotiated with potential objectors and is asking for the licence to permit live music indoors and outdoors daily from 10am to midnight - limited to no more than 15 occasions per year.

He is seeking permission to play recorded music daily from 10am to 2am and for the provision of dancing facilities, dance performances and sale of alcohol.
