KEEN swimmers are being asked to take part in a sponsored Swimarathon to raise cash for charities.

The event, organised by Burnham Rotary Club, will be held from 10am at Brean Splash Waterpark on Coast Road in Brean on Sunday, February 10.

It will raise funds for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, Rotary charities and other worthy causes in the area.

Organiser and rotary member, Jim Tancock, told the Weekly News: “We hope the Swimarathon will be a success and exceed the money raised last year (£1600 at our first attempt). “That will only be possible if more teams from businesses, clubs, schools and families make a determined effort to take part.

“A portion of the money will also be split between community projects, and teams will retain 45% of their total money raised – so it’s also a great way to raise funds for their own charities.”

Teams of up to eight people are needed to swim in relay for up to 50 minutes depending on their ability.
