Outdoor play fun at Burnham Infants' School
OUTDOOR play was the order of the day when the Weekly News visited Burnham Infants' School.
The school hosted a play morning, where children are encouraged, through play, to develop skills such as problem-solving, negotiation and co-operation, and to make new friends.
A school spokesman said: “Our 'play mornings' give all children the opportunity to choose their play and interact with other children across all year groups so we often find the older children supporting their younger peers in activities which they might not feel brave enough to approach on their own.
“The older children feel proud and responsible in taking charge of the younger children.
“Play morning activities range from shelter and den building, playing with tyres and spare parts, dressing up and dancing under the disco ball, to making countless creations out of a cardboard box and playing with shaving foam, flour, water and mud where the children are allowed to get as messy as they like!
“The play opportunities are vast and can never be predicted - our children always surprise us with their excellent ideas - activities that the adults would never have thought of!”
