FAMILIES in Burnham now have a brand new pool to swim in after a £1.9 million pool officially opened in a local holiday park.

Burnham Mayor Martin Cox cut the ribbon on the new pool at the official opening ceremony at Burnham Holiday Village last Friday.

Simon Briggs, pool manager, said: “It's 50% bigger than the previous pool. We have added even more features such as a ten foot tap and a kiddie pool with some interactive things for them to play with.

It has a sitting area around the pool now and reception seating where people can have a cup of coffee and an ice cream.”

Planning for the new pool started almost three years ago by the Burnham Holiday Village staff, and building began on November 4 last year.

With the awful weather over the winter, staff were worried they wouldn't make their official opening date, but in the end the builders managed to pull through.

Mr Briggs said: “We made it to the opening day. It was quite tight in the end but we opened on time.

“I was buoyed by the fact our project manager, William Goodhall, has had many years in the business and I was informed that he has never missed a deadline.”

Although it has only been opened for a short time, holiday makers are already having a great time at the new pool, albeit with one slight problem.

Mr Briggs said: “The report and all the feedback we have had from owners and the holiday makers has been phenomenal. People have said it's too cold at the moment but we are working on that and should be at optimal temperature soon.”
