POLICE are appealing for witnesses after masked robbers stole a large amount of cash during an armed raid at a Highbridge supermarket.

Terrified staff members were threatened by two men armed with crowbars at the Highbridge branch of ASDA on Thursday.

The men broke into the premises in Caxton Drive at around 11pm – an hour after the store had closed – and made off with thousands of pounds in cash.

DC Matthew Stevenson of Avon and Somerset Police said: “Two masked men in possession of crowbars forced entry into the store and threatened staff. Cash was stolen.”

An ASDA spokesperson said that staff are assisting police with their enquiries.
