A STAY-SAFE campaign aimed at people using taxis over the party season has been launched.
Sedgemoor District Council is urging residents to book taxis in advance, or ensure they are using a registered cab to get them home after a night out.
A spokesman for the council gave the following advice: “For your own safety, always take a council licensed vehicle – the driver and vehicle have both been vetted.
“Never get in to a taxi that does not display an appropriate plate at the rear. It is not insured and may not be licensed.
“And ensure that the driver is displaying a council-approved driver’s badge.”
Look out for the following:
- Hackney carriages have a white sign attached to the front and rear of the vehicle displaying the vehicle plate number and the letter H.
- They also have a badge displayed in the front window.
- They can be found in designated taxi ranks or can pick up passengers who flag them down.
- Private hire vehicles have a white sign attached to the front and rear of the vehicle displaying the vehicle plate number and the letter P.
- They also have a badge displayed in the front window.
These can only be booked in advance through an operator.
