ABOUT 600 people turned out to see Santa in Burnham while raising money to help little miracle Lyra Cole who has battled a brain tumour.
The children queued up to take their turn with Santa and also enjoyed meeting characters from Disney’s Frozen such as Olaf and Elsa at the Lighthouse pub on Friday evening.
Eighteen-month-old Lyra has been hailed ‘a little miracle’ by doctors after surviving a brain tumour and just a few months later she had an operation to remove a cyst which temporarily robbed her of her sight. However she is now doing well and has regained her sight.
Lyra’s aunt, Jessie Hawkes, said the evening had been a great success and had raised £700 for Brain Tumour Research.
She said: “The evening went really well and we had around 600 people turn up. In fact it went so well we are having another event at the same venue on Monday, December 22. We have around 70 tickets available and we’ve sold around half of them already.
“We have raised well over £1,000 now towards our goal of £2,800 so we are doing well. We have other events in the pipeline so hopefully the amount will go up quite quickly.”
