A BURNHAM teenager had some unexpected inspiration during a charity fundraiser on Saturday when his cousin made an emotional visit from her hospital bed.
James Tandy, 18, decided to have his head shaved to raise funds for the Bristol Children’s Hospital Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal, in support of Lauren Tandy who is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
And he was amazed when Lauren was driven by ambulance to Asda in Highbridge to attend the event and cheer him on.
Lauren, who was celebrating her 17th birthday on the day, watched from her wheelchair with family and friends as James’ signature curly locks were trimmed off to raise nearly £4,000 for the charity.
James said it was a wonderful surprise to see Lauren and that he was thankful to have raised such astonishing amount.
Shel Tandy, James’s mother, added: “It was very emotional because James had no idea Lauren was coming so it a fantastic surprise for him.
“Both his father and I are so proud of him.
“It’s all been down to him, it was his idea and he always said that he’d shave his hair off if Lauren ended up losing her hair through the treatment, so he’s gone through with it.”
The Grand Appeal is the Bristol Children's Hospital Charity, supporting sick children from Bristol and across the South-West.
