LARGE crowds turned out for an ancient wassailing ceremony at Westcroft Cider Farm at Brent Knoll.
Rain failed to put people off from attending the ceremony which is held in cider orchards to encourage a bumper harvest of apples and to scare away evil spirits.
The word ‘wassail’ comes from the Anglo-Saxon phrase ‘waes hael’, which means ‘good health’.
